[jira] [Created] (INFRA-10535) Failure of a single LDAP server causes multiple problems

Sebb created INFRA-10535:
----------------------------

Summary: Failure of a single LDAP server causes multiple problems
                 Key: INFRA-10535
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-10535
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Task
          Components: LDAP
            Reporter: Sebb

The ldap1-us-west server is currently not responding to LDAP or even pings.

All the scripts that access LDAP groups on minotaur use this server by default, so they aren't working.

Also reporter.a.o uses that server and is not working.

Given that there are multiple LDAP servers, it does not seem right that there should be a single point of failure.

Is there any way for scripts to fallback to a different server?
Yes, they could have a list of servers and try them in turn, but that would take a long time unless the timeout were drastically reduced, which might have other issues. And once a server is known to be faulty it ought to be sent to the back of the queue.
