[general] Code freeze

Please consider all code streams frozen until the issues covered by the
6.0M1 [vote] thread are resolved.  The exception to this would be any
commits to fix the issues mentioned in that thread.  Such commits would
be most welcome.

I would like to propose that the code freeze is lifted (without getting
into the debate about a unilateral freeze and commits, especially since
you are doing all the good stuff at the moment! :-) )
