[~marcuse] I'd like to help with this if possible and you don't plan to take this anytime soon. Do you have an idea of what you'd like to see tested for this? Are you thinking of improving dtest coverage of edge cases or do some more specialized testing for this?

I was thinking some of the tests that would be nice to have here:
* Range movements (and other conditions that cause change of boundaries)
* Partial disk failures
