CVS HEAD Broken? SNAPSHOTs to blame?

Is anyone else having problems with maven?
(well some people on IRC are now... but the person who updated the
snapshots may not be there (if it was a snapshot thing))

I think it may have been a snapshot jar that was downloaded; as my
previously working install all of a sudden died in a big way.

Now after a "successful" bootstrap, maven -g yields
 __  __
|  \/  |__ Jakarta _ ___
| |\/| / _` \ V / -_) ' \  ~ intelligent projects ~
|_|  |_\__,_|\_/\___|_||_|   v. 1.0-beta-8

Available [Plugins] / Goals
```````````````````````````
No goals.... so sad...
