file problem
I have one file which will not open. Every time I try the message comes up “Open Office has stopped working. A problem caused the programme to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available” All my other files open normally. This one is particularly important at the moment so what to do?
help

Usually this is caused by some problem with a recent insertion, perhaps a table of illustration (but not exclusively those).
It can happen that OpenOffice on another operating system can open a stubborn file; a resave on that system will sometimes produce a good file.
Another method (useful mostly for text files) is to use an archive utility such as WinZip to open the .odt file. Content.xml in the archive contains the unformatted text, which can be extracted, inserted into a new blank file of the correct type and (usually) speedily reformatted. If the file is a spreadsheet or other type of file the reformatting may be overly complex.
