Newbie Requesting Assistance

I am a Lenya/Cocoon/Java newbie attempting the Tutorial, but I'm having trouble
creating a "New Document". I'm following the instructions at:

- http://lenya.apache.org/
- Version 1.2,
- Installation, (and)
- Lenya 1.2 Subversion Guide, (and)
- Apache Lenya 1.2 Install instructions

STEP 1:
- Downloaded and built cocoon source in c:\src\cocoon-2.1.7

STEP 2:
- cd to C:\src\cocoon-2.1.7/
- Enter "cocoon servlet"
- Go to http://localhost:8888/ (Firefox browser)
- See "Welcome to Apache Cocoon! Congratulations! If you are reading
this page, it means that your Apache Cocoon installation was successful."
- Kill cocoon

STEP 3:
- svn co http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/lenya/branches/BRANCH_1_2_X LENYA_1_2_X

STEP 4:
- Executed build.bat in C:\src\LENYA_1_2_X

*****************************************************************
*
* You have successfully built Apache Lenya 1.2.5-dev based on
*
*      Cocoon (../cocoon-2.1.7)
*
* Start using Apache Lenya with Jetty by typing
*      Linux/UNIX: ./lenya.sh servlet
*      Windows:      lenya
*
* and browse to
*      http://127.0.0.1:8888
*
* Thanks for using Apache Lenya
*
*****************************************************************

BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Total time: 1 minute 15 seconds

C:\src\Lenya_1_2_X>

STEP 5:
- cd to C:\src\LENYA_1_2_X
- Enter "lenya"
- Go to http://localhost:8888/index.html (Firefox browser)
- See "Welcome to Apache Lenya You have successfully installed Apache
Lenya 1.2.5-dev. To start, click on any of the publications on the left."

STEP 6:
- Click on hyperlink to "Default Publication"

STEP 7:
- Click on hyperlink to "Login as Editor"

STEP 8:
- Login Username: lenya, Pwd: levi
- See "Welcome to the Default Publication!"

STEP 9:
- Click on hyperlink to "Tutorial"

STEP 10:
- Select "File->New Document"

STEP 11:
- Parent ID:  /tutorial
- Document ID*: foo
- Navigation Title*: Foo
- Click "Create"

. . . and *THIS* happens:

An Error Occurred

file:\C:\src\Lenya_1_2_X\build\lenya\webapp\lenya\pubs\default\content\
authoring\tutorial\foo\index_en.xml (The filename, directory name, or
volume label syntax is incorrect)

[stacktrace attached]

Step 12:
- If I execute STEP #11 again, I get the following error:
"The ID you've entered is already taken. Please choose another one."

. . .

COCOON_HOME = C:\src\cocoon-2.1.7
LENYA_HOME = C:\src\LENYA_1_2_X
JAVA_HOME = C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05

As a newbie, I have no idea how to begin figuring out what is wrong.
Any assistance would be appreciated as my goal is to learn enough
about Lenya and Cocoon to (eventually) volunteer on the Lenya project.

Sorry for the long-winded email  .  .  .

Regards,
Carl Anderson

Hi Carl,

1st: with my jdk1.5_03 it works, I've not tested with 1.5_05. So if
you need java Tiger functions try to use the earlier version (update 3).

2nd: On the other hand: If you use version 1.2.x of lenya, why don't
try out the binary? On my machines it runs stable, so I would only
use a self build package for lenya1.4alpha...
