Re: svn commit: r411228 - /myfaces/core/trunk/impl/src/main/java/org/apache/myfaces/application/ApplicationImpl.java

@team - what is the game plan for making sure improvements like this are getting into the 1.2 branch? When will 1.2 be trunk ?

@Grant - not an attack on you

Re: svn commit: r411228 - /myfaces/core/trunk/impl/src/main/java/org/apache/myfaces/application/ApplicationImpl.java

Posted by Martin Marinschek <ma...@gmail.com>.
Thanks Matthias!

Finally someone seeing my point who voices his opinion as well.

I believe we don't need a certified release of 1.2 on 1.4 and TC5.5 to
be good (yes, it's impossible I know) - people will trust us that we
implemented stuff in a way that will help them.

We'll get them the features of 1.2 in a 1.4 and TC5.5. compatible way,
and then move on to 1.2 on 1.5 and TC6 by adding the syntactical stuff
(unified EL, and what else there is, all pretty minor with regards to
functionality)!

at least, this would be my gameplan.

Re: svn commit: r411228 - /myfaces/core/trunk/impl/src/main/java/org/apache/myfaces/application/ApplicationImpl.java

Posted by Matthias Wessendorf <ma...@apache.org>.

+1
A good idea. Since there are some generics and annotations (like
@Post...) that can't be done now. Rest is quit possible. For instance
supporting invokeOnComponent() or the FacesServlet thing (just to name
two) is *not* specified to do it in Java5 fashioned way.
Using (first) 1.4 is pretty good. And than we can *switch* to Java5.

I'll rewrite invokeOnComponent() in Java 1.4 next days (after my travelings...)

Re: svn commit: r411228 - /myfaces/core/trunk/impl/src/main/java/org/apache/myfaces/application/ApplicationImpl.java

Posted by Martin Marinschek <ma...@gmail.com>.
I'd love to have 1.2 on trunk. But have you seen the answers on my
question on the dev-list? Quite a few people are stuck with JDK 1.4
and TC5.5 currently...

Manfred and I discussed this week, and he explicitly wants to do it
the same as I see it as well - implement everything we can of 1.2 in a
1.4 and 5.5 compatible way, and then in a month do the final step on
1.2 pure.

regards,

Martin
