[I] Error in /api/v1/security/csrf_token/ 422 "msg": "Subject must be a string" [superset]

RenePab opened a new issue, #31675:
URL: https://github.com/apache/superset/issues/31675

   ### Bug description

   I have installed the latest version of the master branch and ran docker compose up and got everything working fine through the browser and I could even log in through the API endpoint using postman:
   http://localhost:8088/api/v1/security/login

   the problem is that this endpoint:
   http://localhost:8088/api/v1/security/csrf_token/
   is returning:
   status: 422 UNPROCESSABLE ENTITY
   {
       "msg": "Subject must be a string"
   }

   this is the access token generated by the login endpoint:
   eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJmcmVzaCI6dHJ1ZSwiaWF0IjoxNzM1NzcwNzkwLCJqdGkiOiIzZDYzMThhYi05NTYyLTQxZmUtOGJmNS0zMzNiMTU5YmM4NDAiLCJ0eXBlIjoiYWNjZXNzIiwic3ViIjoxLCJuYmYiOjE3MzU3NzA3OTAsImNzcmYiOiIzYTMxOGZhMi0wMTI0LTQ5YzctYjQzZi03YjFhMDU3YzlmZjEiLCJleHAiOjE3MzU3NzE2OTB9.fIc111JN4WysrHIfhQVyLSzVi6VAvnhi18UPX3jLJLw

   It looks like the problem is external in flask_appbuilder/security/api.py. So the proper fix is to make either make sure user.id is a string within superset or for flask_appbuilder to cast it to and from strings if required.

   ```
   class SecurityApi(BaseApi):
   ...
   def login(self) -> Response:
           ...
           resp[API_SECURITY_ACCESS_TOKEN_KEY] = create_access_token(
               identity=user.id, fresh=True
           )
           if "refresh" in login_payload and login_payload["refresh"]:
               resp[API_SECURITY_REFRESH_TOKEN_KEY] = create_refresh_token(
                   identity=user.id
               )
   ```

   @rusackas I also encountered this issue when I installed the latest superset version. The following code was working normally and when I updated the superset version I was getting the error that @RenePab was getting.

   ```python
   # Start a session to maintain cookies across requests
   session = requests.Session()
       "provider": "db"
   }
   # Login and get the access token
   r = session.post(base_url + 'api/v1/security/login', json=payload)
   access_token = r.json()['access_token']
   print(access_token)
   # Add the access token to the session headers
   session.headers.update({
   })
   Hi @withnale thanks for digging into this. If you can test the fix in Flask-AppBuilder and see that it solves the problem, that does seem like the best way to address it. I won't tag him in yet but the maintainer of FAB, Daniel, is also an active Superset contributor so if you open a complete issue/PR in the FAB repo and link back to here, he should be amenable to fixing it upstream in FAB.
   Hi @rusackas @leschiffres
   I am also facing same issue while calling /csrf_token Api from postman of Apache superset
   Step which I am following.
   1. call api http://localhost:8088/api/v1/security/login
   getting response with this token
   {
       "access_token": "eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJmcmVzaCI6dHJ1ZSwiaWF0IjoxNzM4NzQ4NzYyLCJqdGkiOiIzMzNlNjg5Mi1jZjk3LTQ5NDQtYmQ4Mi02NDQwZjQ5ZDcyZjMiLCJ0eXBlIjoiYWNjZXNzIiwic3ViIjoxLCJuYmYiOjE3Mzg3NDg3NjIsImNzcmYiOiJhMzhkM2ExOS1lNzc0LTQ4YWItOTczZi04NTVjMWQ1YWZlN2YiLCJleHAiOjE3Mzg3NDk2NjJ9.YZIBJh36rQs5sR4diwtJlz2yK9uC4gYlxgKapAQlmqw",
       "refresh_token": "eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJmcmVzaCI6ZmFsc2UsImlhdCI6MTczODc0ODc2MiwianRpIjoiOTA5YWY3M2ItMjI0OS00OGNlLWFlYmEtOTRkMDI5OTUwNThiIiwidHlwZSI6InJlZnJlc2giLCJzdWIiOjEsIm5iZiI6MTczODc0ODc2MiwiY3NyZiI6ImJjODU2MzA2LTBiYjEtNGIwMi1hZDIwLTRkOWQ4ZWIwZWJhYyIsImV4cCI6MTc0MTM0MDc2Mn0.VCmZQBYJnJValrj06FXroACyc5SRLWKxBYX-5S1igUk"
   }
   Decoded the token.
   {
     "fresh": true,
     "iat": 1738748762,
     "jti": "333e6892-cf97-4944-bd82-6440f49d72f3",
     "type": "access",
     "sub": 1,
     "nbf": 1738748762,
     "csrf": "a38d3a19-e774-48ab-973f-855c1d5afe7f",
     "exp": 1738749662
   }
   2. Call this api http://localhost:8088/api/v1/security/csrf_token with above token so getting below error.
   {
       "msg": "Subject must be a string"
   }
   Because of sub here is integer but when any api validating token in Apache Superset except string.
   Can you suggest the based solution here.
   Thank you,
   Vivek
   If there is a quickfix of using `PyJWT==2.9.0` can we get that into the master branch? This seems to be a backward step since the `/api/v1/security/csrf_token` endpoint has been working okay with the 4.x codebase.
   <!-- Greeting -->
   Hello, @RenePab! I'm here to help you with any bugs, questions, or contributions you have for the project. Let's tackle this issue together!
   <!-- Answer -->
   The error message "Subject must be a string" occurs because the 'sub' claim in the JWT token payload is an integer, but the CSRF token endpoint requires it to be a string. This is a known issue when using the latest version of the master branch in Superset <sup>[[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/discussions/31418)</sup>.
   A recommended workaround is to use the Superset CLI for automation tasks instead of the API, as there is no direct way to modify the 'sub' claim in the Ansible workflow <sup>[[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/discussions/31418)</sup>.
   I encontered this issue while upgrading from 4.0.2 to 5.0.0rc1.
   This error seems related to the library `flask-jwt-extended`: I found this issue related to our problem: https://github.com/vimalloc/flask-jwt-extended/issues/557
   [This quickfix](https://github.com/vimalloc/flask-jwt-extended/issues/557#issuecomment-2483530464) worked for me for version 5.0.0rc1: using `PyJWT==2.9.0` instead of the [`2.10.1` in the requirements](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/5.0.0rc1/requirements/base.txt)
   Happy to reopen the issue.
   @onionhammer it seemed like a field that requires being a string should be populated with a string... that didn't seem like a "bug" so I closed it. We're all volunteering here, trying to keep an actionable backlog... no need to be snarky.
   @leschiffres if you can narrow it down to the line(s) that changed, maybe you can do a `git blame` and see which PR changed it and why?
   @onionhammer The issue was that the "sub" which is subject for the jwt token was an integer and it should be a string. Are you still facing this issue ?
