   thanks for the clarification!
   I think the maven improvements are important, especially on the master branch. As branch 3.6 is still relatively close to the master, I think it would be important to make the state of the maven files as close as possible. For branch 3.5 I also see the value, but this version is not really developed too actively and also is further from master. It might not worth the effort to push all the maven improvements here.
   
   Regarding the review process: it is slow indeed. Also I think most of the active committers are not as familiar with maven as with the other parts of the codebase. I will try to prioritize these PRs, feel free to request review, I will try to respond quickly.
