We need to fix the issues. Believe it or not, it is possible to code a layout that works in IE6/IE7/IE8, Firefox, and Safari without any sort of crazy CSS hacks or Javascript. I've done it many, many times, and so have most of you. The frontend OOTB Ecommerce component layout needs an overhaul. The OOTB layout has not changed in years. We need to present a layout OOTB that reflects todays web standards and techniques. Do that, and IE will fall in line.

I was only speaking as a feature OOTB which could be removed easily. We could put some directions in the wiki setup page on how to quicly remove it. Moreover this would be only on the ERP side.
Actually the idea is that we will never end fixing the pig (IE8 is still a pig). I'm sure there are still places where IE is unusable. But it's a pain for us to fix it and we have not enough resources to do so. BTW I see more this as a warning than anything else. Somehting saying like (bu more polite of course) "Hey, you use IE, maybe you will cross some problems we have not identified, because IE is a pig"
BTW, if someone has a solution for this particular issue, I'm ready to review it...

Chris - my comment was based upon the fact that we're talking about having people move over to Firefox instead of working on fixing the real problems which are on IE - sorry to not put enough context in there to make it clear. I agree with Scott. Although IE6 is a pig:
1) Large organisations tell you what browsers they use. They don't expect you to tell them. One of my client's has IE6 installed on over 4000 desktops!
2) Due to increasing threats with internet security, consumers want to know that they are dealing with professional organisations. An ecommerce site that doesn't work makes the consumer question whether they should be purchasing from that site.

I much prefer firefox over IE. However, 1/10 people visiting ofbiz sites (including my customers) will see a buggy application.
I will see if I can fix the problem but my css skills are basic.

I'm against the idea:
1. The back end applications are for business use, no company wants their applications telling them what browsers to use across the company
2. An eCommerce site is no place to be pushing one browser over another, people go to site to buy your products, why would you want to distract them from that goal?
My opinion is that we should do our utmost to support as many browsers as possible in ecommerce but for the backend apps we should only support the most popular browser versions.

Agreed. The world would be a much nicer place without IE!
Joking aside, is there a supported browser policy for ofbiz? At what market share % will IE8 be considered to be a supported browser for ofbiz? IE8 has gone from 0% to 9% share in just 6 months.
I actually think the stats are a bit flawed for the link you gave above. All versions of firefox are lumped under the heading of firefox whereas IE stats are broken down by version. IE (all versions) = 39.4% market share versus Firefox 47.9%.

There are no official policy, but I guess everybody here has gave up sustaining IE crasyness OOTB (this don't mean you don't have to take care of it if your clients really need IE, of course). It easy to explain to people that IE is not a good browser as long as you can show it.
About the link, yes maybe, but what is really interesting here is the trend not the absolute valuesactually. Also you may be interested by this one
