Twill needs to generate a board report for December.
While reviewing some of my other mentees I noticed that Twill was not listed:
http://wiki.apache.org/incubator/December2013
see also: http://wiki.apache.org/incubator/#Board_Reports
It's necessary for a podling to report every month for the first three
months in incubation.
I've fixed the source of the issue - the podling.xml file was not
setup properly (missing "monthly=true" for reporting schedule) - and
committed that change. Shouldn't be an issue for Jan/Feb.
It would be good if you (twill community) could create a board report
asap and add it to that page:
http://wiki.apache.org/incubator/December2013
You'll see the general format there. (report was/is due today, but
asap would be fine)

Patrick

afaik when you get the receipt back you're good.

We have filed a CCLA and ICLAs for all committers.
The CCLA lists "code and documentation for Twill" in schedule B.
So this should be sufficient?

Hi Gary. There need to be iclas and cclas covering everyone who is a
committer. You should also file a code grant unless you addressed that
as part of the ccla (see schedule B in the ccla)

Looking through the Weave commit history, I see one external pull request
that was merged:
commit 49463afb15bd24d3c3356fd99e70cf0212e8f40f
Author: tzolov <tz...@apache.org>
Date: Thu May 23 14:23:53 2013 +0200
(WEAVE-13) rename AbstractWeaveRunnable to WeaveRunnable when
appropriate
But the contributor (Christian Tzolov) is an Apache Crunch committer and
PMC member (see http://people.apache.org/committer-index.html#T), so
already has an ICLA on file.
All other contributors to Weave/Twill up to incubation have been
Continuuity employees making contributions as part of their work. So would
the Corp CLA cover them, or do we also need ICLAs from everyone who
committed to the project?

First step in IP clearance has been completed already by accepting Twill
into the incubator.
Are there any other contributors to Weave/Twill than the initial
committers? If yes, ICLAs are needed. If no, then this should pretty much
be it.

"Apache Hadoop" is an ASF trademark, but I don't think it is technically a

Some questions I had in mind before sending this:
1. We could target a first release this month, but given the upcoming
holidays it may be a tough call. Also, do we require full IP clearance
before the first release? In that case it will not be in December.
2. The PPMC guide mentions to "Check that the project's Incubation
Status<http://incubator.apache.org/projects/index.html>
file up to date. (Also provide the URL.)" . This does not seem to be
the case... who is supposed to update that and what is the process?
3. How long does it normally take to get IP clearance? Should we target
that for the next period?
Thanks -Andreas.
Twill
Twill is an abstraction over Apache Hadoop® YARN to reduce the complexity
of developing distributed applications.
Twill has been incubating since 2013-11-14.
Top three items to resolve before graduation:
- More committers from different organizations.
- IP clearance.
- Regular Releases.
Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware
of?
- None at this time.
How has the community developed since the last report?
- This is the first report since incubation.
- One new contributor since incubation.
How has the project developed since the last report?
- Bootstrapping is complete.
- Code has been renamed from weave to twill, migrated to org.apache
packages, and imported into git.
Date of last release:
- No releases as of yet. Targeting first release for January.
What are the plans for the next period?
- Create the website
- Initial Release
When were the last committers or PMC members elected?
- No new committers since incubation.

lgtm. A shepherd will be assigned next month now that the reporting
schedule is setup correctly. First few months are usually pretty
mechanical so shepherd is not strictly necessary IMO. (you don't need
to do anything regardless)

Targeting the first release for January seems sane. We need to have an
initial website up before doing an initial release, and there is probably a
bit other cleanup of code documentation needed first as well.

Re: Twill needs to generate a board report for December.

OK, should be able to do it today. Here is a draft, does this look good?

Not a problem. Easy to miss (I know from experience :-) ), I just
noticed it today myself.

Sorry about that. I've missed it during podling bootstrap.
