Experience with Amazon EBS?

Does anyone have any anecdotal experience or advice using Amazon EBS
and Accumulo? I was planning on starting out "striping" HDFS across 4
EBS volumes using the dfs.data.dir property on a m1.large instance. I
would be happy to report back the performance I see if people are
interested. What would be the best way of capturing important disk IO
performance/metrics with respect to Accumulo's usage? Thanks.

Aaron Cordova mentioned EBS during our last meetup in Sterling, VA.
I'll let him answer the question directly though.
