I'd like to write a pojo, compile it and drop it into my WEB-INF/classes, then drop a services.xml under WEB-INF and maybe a wsdl for the POJO also under WEB-INF. This will greatly simplify a lot of simple deployment scenarios.

Deepal,
This is not enough. Users need to be able to drop their WSDL and XSD's somewhere as well. The aim is an easy way for folks to add Axis2 to their existing WAR's. We need to make this extremely simple.
- Drop POJO's in WEB-INF/classes
- Drop a services.xml in WEB-INF
- Drop wsdl and XSD's in WEB-INF
- Add some entries in WEB-INF/web.xml
and that's it! they should be done. No mars. No aars, No repo, just plain and easy 4 step process.

- tested with a simple wsdl with embedded schema
- tested with a wsdl and an xsd (dropped both into WEB-INF)
- tested with the following flag
