PMC representation

Hi all and Ted,

I don't know how many of you have perused the PMC
minutes, but the question of Taglibs representation
arose. Basically, Ted Husted is our current
representative, but he's concerned that he is not an
active committer. Are we OK with Ted as our PMC rep?
I'm +1 for Ted as our representative until the next
PMC election.

- Morgan

I'm personally still not keen on the word "representative" since it
implies there is something political going on ;-), but yes, I
volunteered to cover the taglibs subproject for the PMC. But I see this
job more like the "SWAT" teams some companies use to encourage internal
communication. There's a lot of very cool things going on with Taglibs
that everyone in Jakarta should know about.

For myself, I'm nearing the first milestone for an online auction
application now that uses the new JDBC tags extensively, along with the
Struts framework and connection pool, and a new validation package that
leverages both Struts and RegExp. It's exhilarating to be using so many
Jakarta technologies at once.

It came up that the main News and Status page
<http://jakarta.apache.org/site/news.html > really isn't current.
Personally, I'd like to start monitoring the Announcement list more
closely and be sure anything that goes out there is summarized on the
main page. We should probably also have links to any similar pages that
subprojects already maintain. Jason mentioned that we might be able to
collect those automatically into a single page. (Hmmm, sounds like a job
for scrape!)

Sam would also like some type of like a high-level grid summarizing the
status of each project. If everyone keeps using the Announcement list,
we might be able to maintain such a table from that. It could also be
part of the coverage the PMC is trying to provide to each subproject.

Seeing Ted's involvement and contributions in other projects
(struts, commons, and now at the PMC level), it is great
to have him as our official representative.

A big +1.

Speaking of which...
Glenn has mentioned a few important "organizational" things
to help us improve jakarta-taglibs. These are important.

I believe the PMC touched this issue globally for jakarta
at the last meeting. I must admit the IRC log is not the easiest
thing to follow. Would you care to comment on this, Ted?
