[jira] [Created] (HELIX-84) Add example/documentation/recipe on how
to generate idealstate programmatically
kishore gopalakrishna created HELIX-84:
------------------------------------------
Summary: Add example/documentation/recipe on how to generate idealstate programmatically
Key: HELIX-84
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HELIX-84
Project: Apache Helix
Issue Type: Improvement
Reporter: kishore gopalakrishna
Currently the examples in Helix give the impression that idealstate of a resource can only be set using helix admin rebalance api. This is not true, Helix just provides few implementation of generating idealstate given a set of nodes and partitions. One is free to provide his own implementation.
We need to provide examples and recipes for this.
Here is a sample code

Agree core module needs clean up, tools and examples dont fit in there.
Dont think we can do this as part of 0.6.1, probably 0.6.2. Created

I also have an example that reads the ideal state from a JSON file
https://github.com/mingfang/apache-helix/blob/master/helix-core/src/main/java/org/apache/helix/examples/ManualPlacementTest.java
Btw, can we please move the examples out of the core module?
