[jira] Created: (SANDESHA2-140) JDBC Persistent Storage

JDBC Persistent Storage
-----------------------

                 Key: SANDESHA2-140
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SANDESHA2-140
             Project: Sandesha2
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Francois Mireaux
            Priority: Minor

Here is the first version of a JDBC Persistent Storage for Sandesha2. It uses two classes not written by us (ByteBufferInoutStream and ByteBufferOutputStream) but with Apache License. I have only tested with Tomcat 6.0, Axis2 snapshot and MySQL 5 on the Sandesha2 RMSampleService/AnonEchoClient with persistence activated both side.

Is it sufficient for adding as contribution ? Do I need to add a test to the maven build ?

Francois Mireaux commented on SANDESHA2-140:
--------------------------------------------

I restart my PersistentStorageManager from the inMemory one instead of the WSO2 one and adapt source files for Derby/MySQL JDBC compatibility (each one has his own specificity for object storage in blob).

jdbc-storage.zip in my first attempt of a new maven module for org.apache.sandesha2.storage.jdbc package.

No test, only DDL for MySQL and Derby.

Where is the right place for tests ? In the new module or somewhere in the tests directory ?

Think it's better to keep them in the New module. That way it'll be easier for us to run tests with/without persistence.
But please make sure that they get run when the full build is run.

Thanks for the contribution. Hope to see more commits from you :-)

Created a patch from the existing jar file. This patch adds a new module called persistence to Sandesha2.
I did some modification to fix the compilation issues with the current trunk.

Francois Mireaux commented on SANDESHA2-140:
--------------------------------------------

There is nothing MySQL specific in programs, it's a little unclear for the DDL file : I must try with Derby.

I will replace the use of ByteBuffer*Stream with direct JDBC get/set Object.

Sorry, I forget to mention the fact that my PersistentStorageManager is a derivative work from the WSO2 PersistenceStorageManager (based on Hibernate) for the ContextMessage and Transaction management : I don't master Hibernate and I wanted to use Axis2 and Sandesha2 directly and not inside the WSO2 packaging. By the way, at this time, I don't think that the WSO2 implementation could work notably because of very partial implementation of matching in Beans (especially timeToSend in SenderBean).

David Illsley commented on SANDESHA2-140:
-----------------------------------------

Personally, I think this should be in a new maven component and preferably with unittests using something like Apache Derby which we can easily include with the unittests.

A couple of questions:
Is there anything MySQL specific in there?
I note a couple of WSO2 copyrights, but the package structure is currently com.organdia... can you explain?

Finally, I'm not clear on the legal status of those ByteByffer*Stream classes, so I'm not clear if we can accept them.

    Attachment: jdbc-storage.zip

New version of jdbc-storage module with one "simple" test.

Test is a direct adaptation of tests/scenarios/RMScenariosTest (hence my previous question) which use persistence only for client side.

Note : test fails sometimes, quite randomly, due to my bad transactions management, I think. I need to study the problem.
