[PR] feat: Add Apache Analytics (Matomo) to historical documentation pages [grails-website]
GaneshPatil7517 opened a new pull request, #12:
URL: https://github.com/apache/grails-website/pull/12
Resolves #5 - Add Apache Analytics to historical docs
This PR adds Apache Analytics (Matomo) tracking to historical documentation pages
that were missing analytics instrumentation.
## Changes
- **6,624 HTML files updated** across `docs/` and `docs-legacy-*` directories
- Matomo tracking script injected before `</head>` tag
- Added utility script `add_matomo_analytics.py` for bulk processing
# Implementation Details
The Matomo tracking code follows Apache Analytics best practices:
- ✅ DoNotTrack support enabled (`setDoNotTrack`)
- ✅ Cookies disabled for privacy compliance (`disableCookies`)
- ✅ Tracker methods called **before** `trackPageView()`
- ✅ Link tracking enabled for comprehensive analytics
- ✅ Uses Apache's analytics endpoint (analytics.apache.org)
- ✅ Site ID 79 (Grails project)
## Testing
- [x] No console errors
- [x] No broken links or UI issues
- [x] No syntax warnings
- [x] Script loads correctly from analytics.apache.org
- [x] All historical pages updated safely
## Example Pages Updated
- https://grails.apache.org/docs/snapshot/api/
- https://grails.apache.org/docs/snapshot/grails-data/api/
- docs-legacy-gorm, docs-legacy-gsp, docs-legacy-async, etc.

@GaneshPatil7517 I plan to review this PR this week.
This does appear to duplicate https://github.com/apache/grails-website/blob/asf-site-production/AddMatomoAnalytics.groovy using python vs Groovy.

@GaneshPatil7517 This issue is being addressed at the source of the pages with missing analytics over on the grails-core repository. See: https://github.com/apache/grails-core/issues/15133
I am going to close this PR for now, since that other work will fix it permanently going forward.
