JDIs - buttonMode=true

I think we should have some JDIs we come up with and look to have some of
those in either 4.7.0 or 4.7.1 (assuming we end up reserving 4.6.x for
Adobe updates and we do our first as 4.7.0).

First one I'd love to see that's just an annoyance:

Can we set buttonMode="true" on s|Button, I mean... it _is_ a button right?
RIGHT?! :)

Maybe Alex can shed some light on the reasoning. Before making changes we
should first assume "there is a reason this is created this way... why?"

It may be an oversite, it may be because of some other components that it
may effect or some performance change. I have no idea but it is a good
question to ask.

Hi,

first I want to say that this discussion is amazing: Flex developers are
discussing on how to implement a feature in the SDK, we are not just adding
a feature request and hoping it will be implemented someday!! really cool!

Now to this long awaited feature: I would go for 'hand' and to allow Embed
and ClassReference.

Hello to all,

The time has come to create a style for this at last. :) Good call guys.
Using "hand" would make more sense I think. I think most people think of
the default arrow when the see the word "pointer".

something like:..

s|Button
{
    cursor: ClassReference("com.project.CustomCursor");
}

That'd be nice.

The pointer comes from what is available from HTML/CSS (
http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_class_cursor.asp)

I believe "hand" also works, but pointer is more common.

I agree to, make more sense using a style rather than controlling the
cursor with a 'global' property for all the buttons and it's true a change
in the buttonMode property can impact other components.
It's amazing to have a chance to contribute to this decisions but we have
to be careful and avoid to create any issue in the framework, it's our
treasure and we have to protect it.

That gets a vote from me. It would be definitely make it easier to
customize the cursor with Embed or ClassReference.

I'm ok with that, but I will say that, being unfamiliar with this style
property, I would never have guessed that a 'pointer' is a hand instead of
an arrow.

Would you also allow someone to specify a custom cursor there?

Sorry, let me try to be more clear...

In HTML/CSS:

input {
    cursor: pointer; // Makes an input button show a hand cursor on hover
}

It would be nice to have the same implementation in Flex CSS.

s|Button {
    cursor: pointer;
}

Hiding/showing the cursor fundamentally broke with an update to Safari. I
know you're simply talking about the difference between the system pointer
vs the system hand cursor (as opposed to using custom cursors), but be
aware that cursor issues can leave you at the whim of the OS/browser, and
in this case an OS vendor who is aggressively anti-flash (although I'm not
suggesting the Safari cursor issue was malicious). I know that I'm staying
the hell away from any cursor functionality in my apps from now on.

I think a style would be appropriate.

It would also be nice to name it in line with CSS and set the cursor to
pointer when you want the hand cursor. Thoughts on that?

Now you know why we still have version checks. Some changes that seem like
a no-brainer might still break someone's app or alter the user experience in
a noticeable way. So finding a way to make changes in a backward compatible
way without proliferating a ton of flags through the documentation would be
a good thing (in a granular framework, you might simply choose a different
granule).

There were lots of interesting decisions made by our Experience Design team
(blue focus rings only around text entry controls but not other controls,
bold fonts in certain places, no hand cursors) that are all up for changing.

In this case, I think I would prefer a style so it can be part of a theme.

Ok, so, what about if we added something like...

spark.components.Button.defaultButtonMode = true;

Then you can set it once per project across all Button instances.
