           Summary: Add alarm functions
           Product: Log4j
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: chainsaw
        AssignedTo: log4j-dev@logging.apache.org
        ReportedBy: rob.devos@tno.nl

It would be nice to be able to connect an alarm to a stream of messages from a
logging source and let the alarm go off when there are no message's received
within a specified time.
It should also be possible to turn on/off the alarm based on time of day,
because the alarm shouldn't go off at night.

A feature like this can be very use full to monitor the availability of a server
that is being used as a WebServer.

------- Additional Comments From psmith@apache.org 2006-02-28 20:47 -------
Chainsaw is designed to allow you to monitor logging events, it's not a
monitoring agent per-se.

I would recomend Performance Co-Pilot instead(PCP).

A fantastic monitoring agent with alarming built in (see the inference engine
pmie built in).
