| DOM Serialiser does not guarentee file truncation when updating. |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Bug #: 2962 Product: Xerces2-J |
| Status: NEW Version: 2.0.0 [alpha] |
| Resolution: Platform: PC |
| Severity: Normal OS/Version: Windows 9x |
| Priority: Other Component: Serialization |

| DESCRIPTION |
After parsing an XML file and subsequently removing elements from the tree the
DOM serialiser does not guarantee that the created file is truncated prior to
output.
This occurs when the java.io.File provided to the parser and the serialiser are
one and the same. This intermittently leaves redundant text after the final
element as in the following example.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Portfolio Version="1.1">
</Portfolio>rtfolio>

The result is a badly formed XML file which can no longer be parsed.

This behavior has only been experienced on Windows 98 platforms.

The versions tested were 2.0.0 and 2.0.1.
