no need to change your code for now.
In merging the serializer used by Xalan-J interpretive and the one used by
XSLTC we wanted to put the serializer in its own package which had no
dependancies on either Xalan or XSLTC (although the other direction is
fine). Otherwise, for example, XSLTC would depend on the serializer, which
would depend on Xalan-J, building an unwanted dependancy by XSLTC on
Xalan-J.
As of last evening there are changes in CVS that put the method
org.apache.xalan.templates.OutputProperties.getDefaultMethodProperties(String
method)
back. It is marked as depricated and it simply calls the newer
org.apache.xml.serializer.OutputPropertiesFactory.getDefaultMethodProperties(String
method).
Other methods in org.apache.xalan.templates.OutputProperties are only used
within Xalan and are not intended to move in the future.
In addition other classes were put back in, although now just shells of
their former selves and marked as depricated:
org.apache.xalan.serialize.DOMSerializer
org.apache.xalan.serialize.Serializer
org.apache.xalan.serialize.SerializerFactory
The ones to be used in the future are:
org.apache.xml.serializer.DOMSerializer
org.apache.xml.serializer.Serializer
org.apache.xml.serializer.SerializerFactory

Gump currently fails on jakarta-taglibs 'standard' because of a recent
change in
Xalan.
Our sample program of an XML filter calls
org.apache.xalan.templates.OutputProperties.getDefaultMethodProperties
("xml")
which has just been replaced by
org.apache.xml.serializer.OutputPropertiesFactory.getDefaultMethodProperties
"xml")
This recent change does not seem to be backward compatible with the latest
released
version of Xalan :-(
I'd appreciate if someone could give more details on that change
so we can adjust our code.
More specifically, is it that OutputProperties was not meant to be
used by client programs, and this is why this change is not
backwards compatible? Can we rely on OutputPropertiesFactory in the
future, or could it have the same fate as OutputProperties?
