access and change values in a propertyset

i need to access all change the values in a propertyset - no idea how to
manipulate a propertyset outside of echo properties. I need to get the
values - perform math on the values and expand those proprties to a
configuration file-
I am deploying configuration files to multiple instances and need to change
the port numbers to a set offset for each server instance. any suggestions?
