Ideas Needed To Solve Lucene Search Quandry

Hello all,

I have a search index of products that is regenerated nightly. (@500 mb)
It works great for keyword searches, etc.
Now a customer wants to constrain the search to only "in stock" items.
The problem is, inventory is always changing and I cannot update the index every time the inventory changes.

The inventory is in a database, and the server that is doing the lucene search has access to this.
Is there a way to tell lucene to get results and then constrain them by an outside source?

To make matters a bit more complicated... after searching, it calculates facets as well, so ideally, those would only show for the in stock items.

Thanks in advance.
Heath

Heath,

If the index contains the right information and the set of out-of-stock items is always reasonably small and quick to query, you might consider implementing a filter that contains the real-time out-of-stock item set, and filter hits based on that.
