[dev] [jira] [Commented] (LIBCLOUD-351) pypi package dependency on bz2
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LIBCLOUD-351?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13692795#comment-13692795 ]
Tomaz Muraus commented on LIBCLOUD-351:

Yeah, PyPi can handle different archive formats (.bz2, .zip, .tar.gz).
I wasn't aware this was an issue until now. When pushing a next release, I will also make sure to upload other archive types (.zip and .tar.gz).

> It seems you have uploaded the release version to PyPi in BZ2 format, so if you do a 'pip install apache-libcloud', you need a Python version with bz2 support. There is in itself nothing wrong with that, of course -- but it happens to be the case that for a large portion of (our) machines, bz2 support is not by default available, and is not built as automated dependency -- install thus fails with
> ```
> CompressionError: bz2 module is not available`
> ```
> I am not sure if/how PyPi can handle different package types, but it would be great (for us and our users) if the bz2 dependency could be avoided.
