[jira] [Created] (INFRA-5375) Please add CMS support for Drill
(incubating)
Ted Dunning created INFRA-5375:
----------------------------------
Summary: Please add CMS support for Drill (incubating)
Key: INFRA-5375
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-5375
Project: Infrastructure
Issue Type: Task
Security Level: public (Regular issues)
Reporter: Ted Dunning
Please add CMS support for Drill (incubating), with the URL at http://incubator.apache.org/drill/
The site content is in the correct format in https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/drill/
And as a pointer, I just spent an hour searching for information about how to push a podling web site into the incubator framework and all I found was lots of information about how to lay out the directory, how to stage and publish changes.
What was missing was the basic pointer that I needed to file a JIRA to ask that the site be set up.
The other thing that was missing was information about how I could have updated the FAQ myself. Presumably there is a CMS page that I could edit, but it is really hard to tell.

Love to help. Can you point me to where in SVN the site is? It isn't obvious.
Is it http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/infrastructure/site/trunk/
(part of the problem is that essentially ever CMS micro-site refers to itself as "the site"... it is difficult to determine when that might mean "the entire frigging apache.org web site")

Ted,
Have you ever uses the CMS editor before? If not, can I suggest you read:
1) http://www.apache.org/dev/cms.html
and then perhaps spend a few minutes and watch this video created by a committer:
2) http://s.apache.org/cms-tutorial
This should show you how to edit the site using the online editor. The workflow is simple. Navigate to the live page you want to edit, then click on the bookmarklet (which you should already saved in your browser favourites), create a WC if you dont have one, edit the page, commit the change, and then test it looks ok in the staging site, if you're happy and you have permissions, publish it so it becomes live. Sit back and enjoy your work with a beer. :)

Tony,
I had done a trivial edit with the CMS bookmarklet before. It hadn't occurred to me to try that on the FAQ page, probably because of the context of using SVN to update the drill site. With that hint, I just pushed the update.
Regarding moving the site to drill/site, I can definitely do that, but we are using git for the code so there shouldn't be any conflict.
Want me to do the move anyway?
