Re: [users@httpd] Re: Bug Versions 1.3.28/29 Fixed In 1.3.31 Or Not?

As someone with rather less than in depth knowledge of tomcat and as
someone who usually ignores any kind of hostility (which has been coming
from *BOTH* sides in this thread (although not all posters)) on mailing
lists I promised myself I would never get involved in this one.

However I am sick of this thread filling up my inbox. I don't really
mind the posts which are somewhat hostile but are making a good point, I
don't like them but at least they may be interesting.

There are a couple of points I wanted to raise in relation to what has
been written below - please don't bite my head off, I just wish to
contribute a comment and I have had one hell of a bad day.

First of all - by strict dictionary definition - I don't believe this is
actually a "bug" so to speak. It may or may not be bad design, it may or
may not be an omission because someone forgot about it, it may or may
not be an intentional omission, it may or may not be an omission because
nobody wanted to code it (NOTE: I do not want to get involved in those
minor points and idle speculations that begin "may or may not..."! :-)
).
My understanding of a bug is that the software behaves in a way in which
it was never meant to, it "goes wrong". This "feature" of Apache may be
regarded by some people as a bad design, I don't know enough about it to
know or care. However if it was an intended part of (or omission from)
the software then -technically- it isn't actually a bug. This does not
mean that it is a good idea, again I neither know nor care.

My next point is slightly tongue in cheek (I point this out because I
don't want to upset people are argue with them).....

> "Many people are murdered everyday, and they manage it; you can too."
Err, No they don't.
In fact I would say that if a person is murdered then by definition they
didn't "manage it" at all.... :-)
