4G memory is not enough since hbase is very memory consuming.
One lesson we've learnt is to make sure the VM has 8G or more memory.
Also please checkout the "staging" branch, the "master" branch is a little
bit out-dated(in terms of deployment and installation)

Please refer to these links for instruction about how to install, the
guide is based on sandbox but it should be easy to modify for your laptop
instance.
