Sample user/group/role/permission application

I have been looking at Turbine for a while now (about two months), and I
think it's great.  I was trying to use the whole Turbine framework for a
webapp project  for my company too, unfortunately it got canned due to
strict time constraint (we need to finish the first phase of the project in
a week or so, and Turbine proved to be a little too much learning curve for
my coworkers).  I basically had to rewrite subsets of the features of
Turbine that I needed for the project from scratch.

I'd like to continue using / learning Turbine during my spare time though,
and possibly even contribute to the development. One of the reasons why
Turbine was so hard to learn (at least for us) was the lack of complete
webapp examples.  If anyone could give me pointers to any open-source
project already written in Turbine framework it'll be great (I was looking
at Jetspeed too, it's great but it's a little to big to be a 'example'
Turbine webapp, plus Jetspeed seems to have it's own agendas :P)  If there
isn't any then I can work on some 'standard' open-source webapp projects
(such as polls, forums, news, etc.) for Turbine...

For starters, I was wondering if there are examples that use Turbine user /
group / role / permissions. I have been a little confused about how they're
supposed to work (although proposals/security-chat cleared it up a bit).
Also, obviously for any webapp that uses permissions, there should be a way
to manage users / roles... and I was wondering if there's a standard 'user
administration application' for Turbine.  If there's one that's great, but
if not, am I (as a developer using tdk) expected to write a custom one for
each webapp that I write?
