[Bug 4891] New: Razor reporting via spamc fails with "Inappropriate ioctl for device report requires authentication"

http://issues.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=4891

Summary: Razor reporting via spamc fails with "Inappropriate
ioctl for device report requires authentication"
           Product: Spamassassin
           Version: 3.1.1
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: FreeBSD
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P5
         Component: spamc/spamd
        AssignedTo: dev@spamassassin.apache.org
        ReportedBy: rb@ravenbrook.com

When I attempt to report spam with a command like:

  spamc -x -l -C report -u spamd < test

it fails with

  Unable to report/revoke message

and syslog shows:

May 2 12:06:09 raven spamd[51867]: reporter: razor2 report failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
report requires authentication at /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Mail/SpamAssassin/Plugin/
Razor2.pm line 168. at /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Mail/SpamAssassin/Plugin/Razor2.pm line
316.

The spamd user's home directory contains a valid Razor configuration: logging in as spamd and
running razor-check works fine.

(In case you're interested we're running site-wide filtering with a milter, and want users to be able to
report spam using spamc over an SSH tunnel from their various machines.)

No. The options are: --listen-ip --allowed-ips=[censored] --allow-tell --username=spamd

Sorry, I was unclear. By "valid Razor configuration" I meant to imply that I'd already done the Razor
registration and discover steps, and that Razor is working fine, including razor-report etc. The same
razor configurartion works fine with "spamassassin --report" but fails from "spamd".

I spent some time digging in the sources, then ran spamd in the foreground with "-D reporter" to get the
Razor2 output. Razor2 was trying to use root's razor home "/root/.razor" even though it was running as
spamd. It looks like it still had root's HOME envar. I added "--username=spamd" and this appears to
have fixed the problem. (I'll let you know if it comes back.)

However, this doesn't explain the bizarre error reportage from spamd in this case.

razor-check is irrelevent. To report you need to create a razor user account.
See "razor-admin --register" and/or check with the razor docs/folks about accounts.
