The behavior what you described is not typical. AOO works fine with Windows 7
x64 for many users.

A very large proportion of crashes in OpenOffice are cured by deleting or
renaming the User Profile. Details about it are given in:

Please report back the outcome of your testing, so this Issue may be closed or
progressed as necessary - otherwise the issue may be Resolved as Invalid in the
future.
