The MAVEN_OPTS are currently configured like this (https://builds.apache.org/job/PDFBox-trunk/configure)

-Xmx1g -XX:MaxPermSize=300m

The issue is that starting with JDK 8 MaxPermSize does not exist anymore..

Currently the jenkins build of the trunk is currently configured to use 
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option MaxPermSize=300m; support was removed in 8.0
