We should try to split the config.xml to many config files. At the moment the whole config seems to be "overloaded". Config files which are so big are mostly confusing people. And it is also very hard to find syntax errors sometimes in such big config files!

I really agree to this. I had the same in mind the last days. As I
started with James config.xml was really scaring. :-) I was surprised
that everything seemed to work by default without even put my hands in
so deep. You should be able to keep track of one whole file without
using a fancy xml editor.

What about splitting the config per service. So having for example a smtpserver.xml, pop3server.xml, imapserver.xml, nntpserver.xml remotemanager.xml etc..
