Summary: windowsupdate does not work with apache2's mod_proxy
Product: Apache httpd-2.0
Version: 2.0.54
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mod_proxy
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: bjoern@cs.tu-berlin.de
The windows update service for Windows XP (windowsupdate V5)
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
does not work, if the internet explorer has Apache2's mod_proxy server as proxy.
The TCP-packet sniffing with Ethereal does not show HTTP error messages. But
probably small changes (URL-rewriting, headers etc.) of the Apache2 server cause
the problems.
The last "good" request (from Apache Proxy to
v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.nsatc.net) is:
HEAD /v5/redir/wuredir.cab?123456789 (number changed)
After that, windowsupdate requests an error page:
GET /v5consumer/errorinformation.aspx?error=-123456789&ln=de (number changed)
Microsoft also has an article "You cannot view updates on the Windows Update
site using secure socket layer"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326253
about possible problems with windows update and also with proxies. I configured
my Windows XP in the way of this article. But unfortunately the update still
only works, if I NOT use Apache2's proxy module.
If someone wants to fix the problem, I can help with log files, debugging and
may be with coding.
