    Somewhat mixed feelings on this. If someone has requests some particular "limit" and that fails, I'd be concerned that we'd start up in a crippled state. Meaning, I feel it better to exit.
    
    How about you do both logging, and the exit? If you do, I think there's a better way to exit now, instead of the assert.
