camera and mic disabled

Hi there,

I just install a OM 4.0.1 from scratch and when i go in the setting of a new create room, i have DISABLED at camera and mic drop down.

Is there anything i forgot to install ? (package, plugins) ?

I'm running OM 4.0.1 on Debian Strech 9.1

Bye

--drop doesn't work with derby DB, so it sort of "known issue"
should work as expected with all "production ready" databases

Thank’s, your first command work to restore my backup.

This command
./admin.sh -r -f backup_2017_12_08_11_35_23.zip
Should look like this:
./admin.sh -r -file backup_2017_12_08_11_35_23.zip

I personally prefer:
./admin.sh -v -i -file backup_2015_12_07_03_35_39.zip --drop --skip-default-objects

Actually release differs from nightly by
1) level of testing
2) release contains signed screen-sharing application and doesn't display ugly warning to the user :)

The best way to save your changes to language files - contribute them back ;))

To be serious:
1) All labels are stored in xml files under webapps/openmeetings/WEB-INF/classes/org/apache/openmeetings/web/app/ folder, you can merge them with updated version (merge is prefered comparing to overwrite to have all added labels, if any)
2) DB room files and recordings can be preserved using backup/restore (I prefer command line admin for this)

I think we will wait before deploy in production the release of 4.0.1 stable, any date ?

Clicking on the webcam button (to enable/disable the webcam) doesn't do anything.
Clicking the gear button to select a webcam and a microphone works though, we can see the webcam feed during this test.

By default both camera and microphone are disabled until user will choose correct devices and allow to use it
Most probably device list will be inaccessible until you will set up HTTPS (modern browser limitation)

I think our upgrade from 4.0.1 first release (missing main.swf) to 4.0.1 (1 dec 2017) was not so clean ☹

I think we will wait before deploy in production the release of 4.0.1 stable, any date ?
We are now running 1.8 and no problem at all ☺

Both mic and cam are disabled in case mic/cam were not selected in settings and saved
In this case cam/mic is grayed-out ....

Clicking on the webcam button (to enable/disable the webcam) doesn't do anything.
Clicking the gear button to select a webcam and a microphone works though, we can see the webcam feed during this test.

We finally fix all of our current problem related to MIC and CAM.

Solution was to reinstall a clean nighltly build from 5 dec 2017.

I think our upgrade from 4.0.1 first release (missing main.swf) to 4.0.1 (1 dec 2017) was not so clean ☹

I think we will wait before deploy in production the release of 4.0.1 stable, any date ?
We are now running 1.8 and no problem at all ☺

This problem seem to exist on the demo server

Clicking on the webcam button (to enable/disable the webcam) doesn't do anything.
Clicking the gear button to select a webcam and a microphone works though, we can see the webcam feed during this test.

Hello Martin,

By default both camera and microphone are disabled until user will choose correct devices and allow to use it
Most probably device list will be inaccessible until you will set up HTTPS (modern browser limitation)

I found the file for the translation, it’s perfect.
We will keep those file (after we made ours proper changes).

Now, for the publics rooms. If we do changes in thoses room, you talk about « command line admin » for backup/restore.

Can you help me about that, give me more information about the command line ?

RE: camera and mic disabled

Posted by "Chamberland, Martin" <Ma...@fadq.qc.ca>.
Perfect, we will probably wait for that release, but..

Suppose we keep running that 4.0.1 nighlty build now and that we setup it as we want (create new room, change some sentence in french etc etc).
How can we do the update after to 4.0.1 stable without loosing all of those precious settings ?

Both mic and cam are disabled in case mic/cam were not selected in settings and saved
In this case cam/mic is grayed-out ....

Hello Martin,

By default both camera and microphone are disabled until user will choose correct devices and allow to use it
Most probably device list will be inaccessible until you will set up HTTPS (modern browser limitation)

Ok, i understand.

I will deploy the newest release of 4.0.1 (1 dec 2017).

What is the best way to update from 4.0.1 (october) to 4.0.1 (december) ?

That file seem to be not in the apache-openmeetings-4.0.1-SNAPSHOT.zip but in apache-openmeetings-4.0.0.zip

Anyway, it’s working now.

According to my experience and our demo server
everything should work as expected in case you are under HTTPS

can you check if our demo works for you?
Do you have any errors in browser dev console?

Hello Martin,

By default both camera and microphone are disabled until user will choose correct devices and allow to use it
Most probably device list will be inaccessible until you will set up HTTPS (modern browser limitation)

Could you please file JIRA regarding this?

Hello Maxim,

got it ;-) I was a little bit confused, because I set up a conference
room which is not public. If I entered the room the microphone option is
not active. After your last answer I've checked all other conference
rooms and I realized that you are right (of course). Well, all I've done
afterwords was: choose again the room type (click and mark conference
room again) and it works ;-) Hilarious!

Ok, to keep the discussion ongoing: I think the "autoselect if not
explicitly denied" way should be the default setting! It is easier for
inexperienced users.

;-)

BTW: Thanks for your work and the update to 4.0.5! Looking for the
update this evening. Again -> thanks a lot!

Bye

Re: How to set microphone option automatically

Hello Stefan,

Audio/Video will start automatically in the room of type "conference"
IF user already set up camera/microphone

This is actually the place for DISCUSSION
Currently both camera and microphone are treated as "Disabled" if they
weren't explicitly allowed
This can be changed, we can autoselect first camera/mic it it wasn't
explicitly denied

WDYT?

How to set microphone option automatically

Posted by Stefan Kühl <st...@quatrekuehl.eu>.

Hi @all,

I set up a new room and I didn't find the auto set microphone option
like it is in the room "Conference room with microphone option set".

All I want is, that the microphone starts automatically and asks für
permission in this little "Avatar" field.

Thanks and Greetings!

I'm using MySql in development, because I can check what is in DB :))
You can use any supported DB (except Derby) and its UI/comman line
interface to check :)

Ahh   thanks.   I was using the internal derby databse  and wasn't  sure
how to check and a developer I was working with couldn't seem to find it.

Sorry for the query.  Seems glaringly obvious after seeing those
commands.   Will start  double checking  from  now on.

Thanks Pether Dan,
Hi BBS Technik, it does not work for any domain, that must be the problem.
Say No Network, and the other browser work perfectly.

Hi Peter Dähn, I'm trying to prove OM in Puffin browser in Android on my
Wifi. But Puffin always says "No Network". Is any additional configuration
necessary? the other browsers work without problems so there is connection.

Hello Daniel,

Usually access to port 3306 is closed by default from external machines for
security reasons

So I guess the steps should be:
1) create new user as 'name'@'ext_IP' with really strong password
2) grant necessary rights to this user (I guess login and read for
particular table in one DB)
3) check Mysql is configured to work at IP addresses other than 127.0.0.1
(localhost)
4) check if 3306 is open on FW

something like this

Re: Enter and leave class event triggers

Posted by Daniel Baker <in...@collisiondetection.biz>.
Hi Maxim,

What  would be the best way to  look at *DB conference_log table* from
a server  external to OM  ?  Should I just attach to the database
through 3306  MYSQL port  and do  my analysis ?

Thanks,

Dan

Hello Daniel,

These events are being generated
1) in the DB conference_log table
2) in UI you can open Action and Activities and see "user leaves" events

There are plans to improve this:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OPENMEETINGS-1768
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OPENMEETINGS-858

Enter and leave class event triggers

Posted by Daniel Baker <in...@collisiondetection.biz>.
Hi,

Does OM generate any events for when  an admin or student  enters and
leaves the room ?
Where can I see those events ?   Are those events logged ?

Thanks,

Dan

Re: camera and mic disabled

Hello Martin,

By default both camera and microphone are disabled until user will choose
correct devices and allow to use it
Most probably device list will be inaccessible until you will set up HTTPS
(modern browser limitation)
