Re: [Result] Mailing lists cleanup

Will these changes be propagated to the relevant mail archives?

That said, I really don't have a handle on what the relevant mail
archives are. Both the xml.apache.org and jakarta.apache.org pages
have incorrect or dated links to mailing lists.

Personally I just want to see marc.theaimsgroup.com updated because it
seems to be only that is running, up to date, has its lists organized
and supports message searching. While I am at it, I would like to see
it mentioned on http://xml.apache.org/mail.html. IMHO, a good archive
coupled with public knowledge that it is there can seriously increase
the quality of a mailing list.

Cool. I like their setup for signups, but the search could be a little
better (I'm a picky one ;).

http://www.mail-archive.com/ will archive just about anything you subscribe
them to...

I actually didn't know about it either until it just showed up on the
jakarta.xml.org page recently. I was very pleased to see it because
(as far as I can see) it does a much better job than the others that
the Jakarta page lists and includes everything in xml.apache.org as
well (along with many of my other favorite lists). Geocrawler seems
ok, but the list organization is inconsistent and there is no way to
search the lists list. Also, they have yet to respond to any of my
suggestion emails or list addition emails.

The owner suggests just to send him an email for new lists (which I
assume includes changes). The email address is webguy@theaimsgroup.com
Note that his href adds the subject "Add a list to MARC" so you may
want to add that in case he filters somehow. Or you can just hit the
link at the bottom of the page at http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/

I am still surprised that no one has put together a better commercial
or free generic list archive engine. But now I digress (further).

Dave,

Well, now that you mention it, maybe we can do something about it

The mail archive situation is somewhat confusing at the moment. There
was a mail list archive in the works, but I haven't seen an announcement
about it recently.

Until you mentioned it, I didn't even know there was an archive a
marc.theaimsgroup.com. If you know the maintainer of the archive, we
may be able to get something done.

Thanks,

Ted
