Remove spacing from xhtml Serialization output

Hi,
I am using xhtml as the default serializer in my pipes and have noticed, in
the generated browser output, huge spaces between code lines. This has the
adverse effect of actually changing the visual look and feel of my pages. Is
there a parameter I can set in the serializer to remove spacing from the
output?
