Ideally, we'd have test coverage for this. Though it strikes me as somewhat awkward to unit test, since it requires an HDFS.
Should remember to mark this as "can't reproduce" at some point if the bug doesn't resurface.

With the new demux pipeline, this is no longer an issue.
