assertion results in log

hello,
I am running my test plan through command line. I have a response and duration assertion in my test plan to detect timeouts and validity of pages being rendered. However , as is known, assertions keep waiting for the test to complete rather than actually "enforce" the timeout.

1./ In the above case , how can I get the assertion to write some kind of indicative output to a log file ? This log can be parsed for detecting issues.

2./ slightly off topic - in the csv that is generated from a test result run , I have a column called "elapsed". Will that be the column I would like at if I wanted to get the response time for the particular action ?

thanks

Sadat Ali Khan

leaving the enforcing part for nowŠ rather using assertions and parsing
the sampler log , separately.

Short of writing your own sampler , I don't see a way to do what you want
in JMeter.

If I understand correctly , the timeout in the sampler is for each request
and not the whole http message
In my caserequest goes to the server in many small chunks and thus
enforcing T/O through the sampler would not work.

If you want the sampler to fail (timeout to be "enforced" - then specify
the timeout as part of the Connect/response timeout (assuming you are using
the HTTP Sampler)

so if I run my test in non-GUI mode , will it be the log specified with
the -l flag ?
Also do I need to turn up log level to get assertion output ?

Which log file?

If an Assertion fails, then the sample result log file will show the
status as failed.

Use a separate e-mail (with new subject) for each new topic.
