The current POS implementation prints receipts line-by-line and this is very slow.
The attached patch wraps the receipt printing in a JPOS transaction - printing is now very fast

I think you must be right Jacques. I use a Star TSP1000 and print flies now. I'm glad the patch didn't break for drivers (apparently) without transaction support. I'm also glad the Star printer has the transaction support :-)

I did not see a lot of changes on my Epson TM-T88III but it worked without problems.
So I presume it depends of the JPOS Printer (driver?).
You patch is in OFBiz revision 477655.
