subversion --version reports 1.5.0 but rpm says it's 1.5.4-0.1.el5

Have you verified that there is only one copy of Subversion installed?
Frequently there is one version installed, and when an RPM is
installed later it's installed to another path which, if it's in
$PATH, is later than the location of the original install.
