[jira] [Commented] (FLUME-1919) Consider adding areYouOK() RPC calls to Avro & Thrift RPC mechanisms

Mubarak Seyed commented on FLUME-1919:

Right. It helps for debugging. ZooKeeper supports [4 letter words commands | http://zookeeper.apache.org/doc/r3.1.2/zookeeperAdmin.html#sc_zkCommands] like ruok, stat. We can hook with

avro-client options:
  --ruok

> Currently it's not simple to see if an Avro RPC service is alive on a port from an external service (think hardware load balancer or health check daemon). If we added RPC calls for areYouOK() or something like that it would help with these use cases.
