Re: Basic CLI for SIS [GSoC]

Hi chris!

I installed QGIS , its a nice tool and it has lot of features. if we
can launch QGIS
through a command it will be very interesting.

example : sis -qgis -radius 0 80 4000

Cheers,

Hmm, good question. You might want to check on dev@community.apache.org,
or ask the GSoC emailing list about it.

I am not really sure what it means based on the information above.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi chris !

I have recieved an e-mail from google-melange with the subject: "Thank you
for applying to Google Summer of Code 2012" and I am pleased to know the

+1, that would be a great JIRA issue to file and another great project to
undertake. I think it would be awesome and I'm all for it (a SIS ALv2
GUI).

Hi!

Hi chris,

What I was thinking is that it would be great if e.g., we could dump

If that doesn't work or is too hard, I'd be totally open to having
> a small, manageable GUI of our own, as you originally suggested.

Providing a GeoJSON or GML interface is simple than implementing a GUI tool
from the scratch. Thinking about the future of the SIS framework we
must provide a GUI client (under Apache licensed ) for SIS. Can we put
a separate task to build GUI client ?

thanks,

I think that would be awesome. The big issue is that QGis is
licensed under the GPL:

http://www.qgis.org/

Which is incompatible with the Apache License:

http://www.apache.org/licenses/GPL-compatibility.html

What I was thinking is that it would be great if e.g., we could dump
the data out of SIS in a standard GIS format (right now we could
focus on vector data), and maybe dump it out in GeoJSON, or
write a WCS or WMS interface for SIS so that we could then easily
load a layer in QGIS. Thoughts?

If that doesn't work or is too hard, I'd be totally open to having
a small, manageable GUI of our own, as you originally suggested.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. The advantage there would be that
it would be Apache version 2 licensed.

Thanks!

Cheers,
Chris
