why "--shared-module=max" not supported in apache1.3.26?

Summary: why "--shared-module=max" not supported in apache1.3.26?
           Product: Apache httpd-1.3
           Version: HEAD
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Enhancement
          Priority: Other
         Component: Build
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: chedong@yeah.net

I think many articles on apache install included these options:
http://www.google.com/search?q=shared+module+max+enable+most+apache

but I found in apache1.3.26 the --shared-module=max not supported any more:

./configure --prefix=/home/apache --shared-module=max --enable-module=most
Configuring for Apache, Version 1.3.26
+ using installation path layout: Apache (config.layout)
configure:Error: invalid option '--shared-module=max'
