    Use default methods for Charsequence handling in transaction and snapshot

    while working on #770 I realized that a lot of the charsequence convenience methods on transaction could be implemented using default interface methods.  These methods have trivial implementations and having them implemented in the interface makes it much easier to implement the interface.
