Hi!
For having all on record.
DeltaSpike entered incubation in December 2011. Before we came up with the name 'DeltaSpike' we had about 30 other candidates.
We checked the following points back then, and I also checked them once again today:
* no existing trademarks: trademarkia and oami.europa.eu shows no registered trademark
* no existing software project exists with this name: searched via ohloh, sf.net, google, yahoo
* a domain name deltaspike.com is registered to a domain reseller but is apparently not used (screenshot of the page attached) . Thus no problem.
* the name is principally trademarkable. No natural name, no real-live object, etc
