1.4-dev sitemap variables
Hi!
I'm working on my xsl.
Is there a list of (sitemap) variables valid for 1.4? To only list I
know of is:
http://solprovider.com/lenya/variables (probably not valid for 1.4)
Help is appreciated,
Jürgen Ragaller

The shell command needs a modification for my osx shell - I'll try to
do that.
Thank You for the help!

i assume you are talking about those {foo:bar} beasts?
in cocoon parlance, they are called "input modules" (which makes a
better google search term). the standard cocoon ones are documented ok
on the cocoon.apache.org site.
unfortunately, that's not the case for the lenya specific ones. use the
source, luke.
if you're on unix, you can do this:
find -name "*xmap" -exec grep -HEr "\{[a-zA-Z]+(\:[a-zA-Z]+)+\}" {} \;
to get a list of usage examples across all sitemaps. it's not complete,
but you get a first idea of which input modules are being used in lenya.
andreas has been very actively working on new input modules lately, you
might want to search the dev archive for the {workflow:*} and
{access-control:*} modules.
best,
jörn

No, you are right - we have to add some more javadocs.
I recently listed the parameters of the AccessControlModule
(http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/lenya/trunk/src/modules-core/ac-impl/java/src/org/apache/lenya/cms/cocoon/components/modules/input/AccessControlModule.java?revision=442123&view=markup),
but there is still much room for improvement.

i found this kind of documentation next-to-useless, because you can't
easily find out which attributes an input module supports, since all you
see in the docs is a dynamic parameter map.
e.g. you know that a "{flow-continutaion:*}" exists, but you have no way
of knowing that the field you're looking for is "{flow-continuation:id}".
or am i overlooking something?

The problem is that the page envelope input module mixes concerns:
It provides information about a document, and it allows to determine
the currently requested document. IMO the second function is
appropriate for the page envelope, but the first one is better dealt
with using the DocumentInfoModule.

the short answer is that: using {page-envelope:*} is very concise and
neat *as long as you're dealing with the currently requested document only*.
so if you write your own resource type, you can use it to handle user
requests.
the pain starts when you want to make your custom resources available
for searching: when the indexer is called, the currently requested page
might be something else, like /index (and you should not make
assumptions about that anyway).
so when you want to implement a "luceneIndex" match to prepare your
content for indexing, you need absolute addressing, independent of the
page envelope.
see
src/modules/xhtml/config/cocoon-xconf/resource-type-xhtml.xconf and the
xhtml sitemap for how it can be done.
andreas, we really need more detailed info about this in the "custom
doctypes" documentation. i think i can say that i've been digging around
quite a bit in lenya lately. still i totally failed to notice that
DocumentInfoModule exists...

Yes, but this is not a pressing issue.
The page envelope module is especially error-prone when used in modules
(commonly used pipelines).
If you're interested in the reasons, you might want to search the dev list.

A followup question: In the java comment of the
PageEnvelopeModule.java it says:
@deprecated use DocumentInfoModule instead.
I have plenty of {page-envelope:bar} variables in the sitemap... I
guess I should rather use the DocumentInfoModule variables if available?

The javdocs are apparently not built on the zones.

You might want to build your own local javadocs because
the ones on website aren't updated frequently enough.

The javadocs are a little sparse, though.
