[classlib][CORBA] Apache Yoko integration

Guys,

I've created JIRA issue 1056 [1] to integrate Apache Yoko [2] to
Harmony as CORBA implementation.

Since Yoko does not have official releases yet I suggest to put
yoko.jar to Harmony svn tree.

Any objections?

SY, Alexey

Ok - so we need to fix this because I don't know what "current version"
means the moment after you build.

I'll do this now.

Yes, it's possible too.
But everybody will need to install and configure Maven, download huge
number of dependencies ond so on.

I think that including prebuilt jar is much easier.

There are no releases in Yoko yet. I think we can add fetch-depends and
remove jar file from svn later, when m1 release happens (nobody know when
exactly it will happen)

Thanks,
Sergey.

Hi Alexey!

what are the other options?

may be we can download some specific revision and build when do fetch-depends?

I believe that direct compiler call on Maven will not much longer then with Ant.

Yes, I did not run Yoko tests with our JRE since I could not run Maven on it.

Agreed. they use Maven. Let it go. I was just fascinated to see if a
5 line ant script replaced the terabytes of maven infrastructure. I
don't quite believe they achieve the same thing...

Wouldn't running the yoko test suite w/ our JRE prove that?

Let's talk about building accessibility Harmony module for example. I
can make 5-lines build script for this module only.
But it does not mean that Harmony build system will benefit from it.

So I do not see any reason to discuss this script with the Yoko developers.

> We need to make sure we get the working version as a result.
Lets return to accessibility module (or any other Harmony module
without system dependent and native code). If you will build the Java
sources without Harmony build script by direct java compiler call will
you have any doubts on the result correctness?

> Is there any test suite we could use for this purpose?
Yep, Yoko has some tests.

However do not forget that I've building Yoko with Harmony just to be
sure that Harmony has all the methods needed by Yoko.

Indeed, if the simplest script is used instead of the original build system
it'd be not bad to discuss it with the Yoko team. We need to make sure
we get the working version as a result. Is there any test suite we could use
for this purpose?

Better still, show it to the Yoko dev's -- if it really is that short
then perhaps their build scripts would benefit from such simplification!

I think yes :)
It's just 5-lines script which is running javac... Nothing special.

I think just having a jar in SVN for now until the release comes will work.

Thanks for doing this.

Re: [classlib][CORBA] Apache Yoko integration

Posted by Alexey Petrenko <al...@gmail.com>.
Yes, it is possible to build one exact Yoko module with the self-made
build script with just Harmony, Ant and Eclipse compiler.

But if you want to build Yoko using its usual build process then you
need Maven and Maven will download 64Mb of dependencies.

We can extend Harmony build script to build Yoko from sources. That's
one of the possible solutions.
But we will need to update the script each time something changes in Yoko...

But it is possible.

Alexey

sorry I'm not a Yoko expert, but what are the huge number of dependencies
that are necessary to build Yoko? As you mentioned you've built it with
Eclipse and Harmony

Thanks,
Mikhail
