Avoid scanning outbound email?
Hi all...
I'm using postfix/spamassassin/amavisd-new on Gentoo. I do not use
amavisd-new to throw to spamassassin, instead use procmail. I only use
amavisd-new to send to clamav.
I was wondering - what is the recommended practice to avoid scanning
outbound email that is leaving the network? I've been adding users to the
local.cf whitelist, but if I add them by domain I am concerned that those
spammers that send spam and make it look like it is from your domain will be
whitelisted. (You know the ones I mean... When you get a spam email that
says <spammer>@yourdomain.org even though that user doesn't exist on your
domain).
Thanks for any insight...

I'm also a newbie at SA, but SA only scans what YOU tell it to scan.
Simply don't have SA scan outgoing e-mail....
Or perhaps someone will educate me if I'm wrong....

If you're using amavisd-new, you're probably already running a dual-postfix
setup, where one copy listens on 25, and the other on 10025.
Two options:
Configure mail clients in the network to use port 10025. You won't virus-scan
outbound mail this way, and this can be considered a bad thing.
Bind a second IP to the machine, bind a second postfix instance to this second
IP. Set up whatever rules you want. Tell mail clients to use that IP.

Hi Jason...
Yes, you're correct, and better yet, you're correct that I already have it
set up the way I want. Silly me. I checked by sending an outgoing test
and it was not scanned for spam...
Dunno what I was thinking!

Procmail will only scan on incoming mail. So you shouldn't have any problem.
I am assumming that you don't want to scan for spam, but would like to
continue scanning for viruses.
