how to set a global variable in Jetspeed?

In Jetspeed,I want to set a global variable in
context,
so i can use it in every Velocity template,
everytime i set a variable in a template like that,
...
context.put("user","james");
setTemplate("index.vm");
...

and then i can use '$user' in index.vm,but as i refer
to another Velocity template page from index.vm,
the $user will be null,but i want to keep its value,
how can i do?
